The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources, through the Mexican Institute of Water Technology, in collaboration with the National Autonomous University of Mexico and its Engineering Institute, is pleased to invite the international hydroinformatics community to the 14th International Conference on Hydroinformatics, HIC 2020. Welcome to Mexico City.
We live exciting times. We have seen progress in both real-time data analysis and sensor, computer, and communications technology. These advances have opened the way to a broader use of the digital interconnection of everyday objects through the Internet, known as the Internet of Things, a concept closely related to the birth of the cities of the future. In this sense, it is only natural to think about the application of such technological advances to water systems.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can produce an evolution of the administration and operation of hydraulic infrastructure and of the use of hydrological data in the world. With the advent of the digital era and of information and communication technologies, it is inevitable for water scientists to move towards the development and use of intelligent monitoring systems for a better management of water resources.
It is natural for the hydroinformatics community, which has recorded an unprecedented growth in recent times, to adopt such innovative technologies, since its interests range from the simulation of geological scenarios (numerical modeling) to the development of new sensors and tools and even the interpretation of an increasing amount of data, the management of complex systems, and the integration of new models, data, and controls for practical applications.
An unprecedented era has arisen in hydraulic engineering, requiring the participation of more than one discipline to generate adequate solutions to the transcendent challenges facing us in the management of water in this century.
Scientific evidence, in its broadest sense, is the key to a better understanding of the successful and sustainable management of water resources, and the application of new technologies and innovative designs plays a transcendental role. However, this does not mean that the future can be predicted. Therefore, a forum is required that encourages the analysis and identification of problems and their possible solutions.
To facilitate the exchange of ideas, HIC 2020 will become a forum based on interdisciplinary evidence. It will have a series of seminars and interactive workshops based on the global knowledge of those who develop solutions to the current water-related problems.
Therefore, HIC 2020 will be a forum that will promote advanced technologies, will propose new and extensive collaborations, and will find new solutions for water management and the preservation of the environment.
